Building Connections to Provide Opportunities: Supplier Diversity at Kinder Morgan
Posted on Wednesday, November 8, 2023
Kinder Morgan's Supplier Diversity Initiative is dedicated to building connections to provide opportunities to businesses owned and operated by diverse individuals or groups in the communities where we operate.
“Our goal is to build connections and long-term relationships with diverse suppliers who exhibit our values of integrity, accountability, safety and excellence. We track diverse suppliers across several categories, including Veteran Business Enterprise, Minority Business Enterprise, Women Business Enterprise and Small Business Enterprise,” said Jonathan Garcia, KMI’s strategic sourcing supervisor. “The use of diverse suppliers not only supports economic growth in the communities we operate in, but also helps expand our supplier base, promoting competition, innovation and cost savings.”
Kinder Morgan reports supplier diversity spend metrics in its ESG Reports within the Supply Chain Management section. For example, in the 2022 ESG report, Kinder Morgan reported that 10%, or approximately $306 million, of our total procurement spend was with diverse suppliers.
The Procurement Team strives to make connections between Kinder Morgan stakeholders and diverse suppliers. As a result, Procurement hosted their first Diverse Supplier Showcase. The event was held on Tuesday, November 7 and included a mix of 20 current and prospective vendors. Employees were able to visit supplier booths, network and communicate bid opportunities.
“We are proud of the long-term commitment and relationships we have built through our Supplier Diversity initiative,” said Garcia. “We look forward to continuing to expand our diverse supplier network to not only benefit our business but also the communities we serve every day.”
