At Kinder Morgan, we believe in supporting the growth and development of our employees’ careers. From workforce training to tuition reimbursement, we offer a variety of resources to help employees reach their full potential. Following a successful pilot program in 2024, we launched a new initiative to strengthen Kinder Morgan’s long-term talent strategy: the Kinder Morgan Mentorship Program.
The idea for the program was inspired by senior leadership who saw an opportunity to better support the development of emerging leaders within the company. Employees had also expressed interest in a formal mentorship structure.
Our Mentorship Program pairs eligible employees with mentors to share knowledge of our company and encourage career development. Together, mentors and mentees explore goals, skills, and perspectives, creating an avenue for meaningful connection. To help facilitate these conversations, Kinder Morgan provides prepared materials to support productive dialogue between mentors and mentees.
“We want people to share knowledge, learn from each other, and grow their skills,” said Human Resources Director Mary Burtner. “Our hope is that the knowledge gained through mentorship will help employees be more effective in their day-to-day responsibilities.”
Early feedback suggests the program is already contributing to leadership development and employee engagement. One employee, who had recently stepped into a new management role, shared that the mentorship has been “extremely valuable.” With guidance from a mentor, the employee has been able to quickly apply new skills and lead a thriving team.
Another participant noted that the experience has been both “insightful and encouraging,” offering practical guidance and new perspectives that are helping the individual grow professionally. And it’s not just mentees who are benefiting from the program; mentors have also expressed how rewarding the experience has been, with one saying it has “exceeded expectations.”
Kinder Morgan’s Mentorship Program is making a meaningful impact, with strong engagement and positive feedback from participants. By investing in our people and creating opportunities for connection and growth, we’re building a stronger, more collaborative future.
